In Nepalese folklore and mythology, there is a description of a female spirit that is quite evil and dangerous, referred to as Kichkanya or Kichkandi. These spirits are considered to be tortured souls of such women who were tortured mentally or physically while alive or died during childbirth or pregnancy. Such spirits usually began to wander or haunt a particular location, mainly the site of their untimely death, and are latched to an uncremated portion of their dead body that is left unburned after the funeral, usually a bone. In other words, a Kichkandi is formed when the dead body is not burned completely.
They have long black hair and a fair complexion and can often be seen wearing a red bridal dress. They lure lonely male travelers during the night and weaken their life strength or power. It is believed that their victims either die on the spot or turn out skinny. Local cab drivers often encounter these spirits and according to them, Kichkandi can often be seen asking for lifts late at night. But if she is helped by someone or given a lift, then after following her directions, eventually, the driver is found unconscious either in the hospital or at the cremation ground. If taxi and truck drivers are to be believed, then the identification of Kichkandi is her scary feet, which face backward.
The story of a man named Vishnu is quite famous in Nepal, who lived in a rural village. He was a devotee of God and did not believe in ghosts at all. He often went to the temple in the evening and meditated there for a long time. Once, as usual, when Vishnu reached the temple in the evening, he sat down to meditate after worshiping the Lord. He didn't aware of the time in the midst of deep meditation and now it was night. He got up and started walking towards his home. On the way to his house, there was a small forest in the middle, which people believed to be haunted. But all these things seemed imaginary to him.
While passing through the area, Vishnu realized that it was a full moon night. Suddenly he heard voices from the forest like a woman screaming loudly. He didn't find anything unusual when he looked around. But when he moved a little further, a woman in white clothes was standing right in front of him. She still seemed like a normal woman to him, but as his eyes fell on her feet, all his illusions vanished in an instant. He couldn't understand anything in panic, but he had heard from the villagers that ghosts are afraid of fire. He always carried a matchbox to lit the holy flame in the temple, so he immediately lit the matchstick, and as she saw the fire, she screamed and disappeared into the air.
