Little People are mentioned in the folklore of many different cultures, such as Ireland, New Zealand, the Philippines, Greece, the Hawaiian Islands, Indonesia, Flores Island, and Native America. They have usually been part of the stories of the native peoples of North America, who were thought of as small people living in the woods near sandy hills and often seen sitting on large rocks near rivers, lakes, and other large bodies of water. Talking about their looks, they have been described as hairy-faced dwarfs, with height up to the knee of a normal human being.
There are even stories of little people in native legends playing pranks on people. As they sing songs and someone, in turn, searches for the music, they would quickly hide. Little people loved children very much and they often used to take such children with them, whose parents were abusive and used to misbehave with them. There have also been cases of little people raising children who were left alone in the woods or found without parents. Other legends say that the little ones will beg to say nothing of their existence if seen by an adult human. And those who kept their promise were rewarded by them and also their families were helped in bad times.
One gets to hear stories of different natures of little people in different tribes as some were only engaged in misleading the people. Some tribal people considered them as God and claimed that they had supernatural powers. A Native American tribe claims that they have a cave inside which is inhabited by little people but they never enter the cave for fear of their curse. But does science accept the existence of this race? Perhaps some evidence of their existence has already been found by science.

In the year 1830, a graveyard was excavated in Coshocton, Ohio, in which skeletons of the pygmy race were found. The graves in the cemetery were only three feet long. The author Mary Joyce wrote a book called "Cherokee Little People Were Real" and in this book, she shared some strong evidence of the existence of little people. The book reveals the incidents that happened during the construction of the campus of Western Carolina University, which is present near Silva.
Joyce's interest in little people grew when she interviewed Walter Middleton who was working on that construction project. During the interview, Walter told that at the time of foundations, they found some small tunnels which were a few feet high and well-engineered. The workers also found bones of small humans in those tunnels, along with a small skull, which also had wisdom teeth. This shows that it was the skull of an older person.

Cindy Thorrington Haggerty of Indian heritage says that little people can be divided into three groups, the Laurel People, the Rock People, and the Dogwood People. The Laurel People were the ones who often played tricks and pranks on humans. The Rock People were of evil nature and it was better to keep a safe distance from them. The Dogwood People were quite friendly, kind, and helpful to humans. Pixies are also mythical creatures of British folklore, belonging to the category of little people with similar characteristics, often depicted with pointed ears.
