A leaf trembles. A small branch catches the light. A cluster of thorns seems to hang quietly above the forest floor. Nothing moves, and nothing looks alive. The bush viper is also a skilled climber. It spends much of its life above the ground, moving carefully through shrubs and low tree branches. From these hidden places, it waits for small birds, frogs, lizards, and rodents to come close. Instead of chasing its meal over long distances, it depends on patience and the perfect hiding place.
Despite its beautiful appearance, this snake should never be underestimated. Bush vipers are venomous, and they rely on their venom to capture prey. In the wild, their calm and motionless behavior often keeps them out of trouble, but touching or disturbing one can be dangerous.
