The oil was usually acquired by boiling strips of blubber harvested from whales and removing it is known as "flensing" and the process of boiling is called "trying out". Several whale species were targeted for this illegal act such as sperm whales, baleen whales, bowhead whales, and right whales, however, the bowhead whales and right whales were considered the ideal whaling targets.
Whales are one of the endangered species of our planets, so the International Whaling Commission (IWC) imposed a moratorium on commercial whaling in 1986, however, whaling was still remained very common in Iceland and Norway until 2015 despite the international agreement.

The incident took place in 2015 and during that time a video of this anti-whaling demonstration also went viral on social media.
