August 15, 1947, was the time when India became free from the slavery of the British, but do you know there is such a state of India, named Goa, which remained a slave for 14 years even after India's independence. That Goa, which is currently an important part of India and in terms of tourism, which remains a center of attraction across the world. It was not so easy for India to liberate Goa. Today Goa, known for its natural beauty, is considered a famous tourist destination in India and the world, but what was the reason for its slavery during that time, let's know about it in detail.
So it actually happened that Goa was occupied by the Portuguese during that time, and despite the insistence of the people and the government there, they were not ready to leave. Actually, the Portuguese came to India even before the British and captured Velha Goa (English: Old Goa) in 1510. Here the Portuguese army made its permanent colony. In 1843, the Portuguese made Panaji the capital, however, the Portuguese had some better policies than the British, which led to the development of Goa. In the 19th century, a rule was made that those who were paying taxes also got the right to vote to choose the representative of Goa in the Portuguese Parliament.
In 1910, the monarchy was abolished there, after which the military colony got the chance to rule there. After this, the demand for independence intensified in the 1920s under the leadership of Dr. Tristao De Braganca Cunha (1891–1958). After India's independence in 1947, Indian leaders felt that after the departure of the British, the Portuguese would also leave from here, but unfortunately, this did not happen. But despite this, the Portuguese were capturing their hold there, resulting in the movement against the Portuguese government in Goa intensified.
