So far you must have seen only humans and animals being imprisoned, but today we are going to tell you something that you will be shocked to hear. Because today we are going to talk about such a tree that remained ‘under arrest’ for hundreds of years. Yes, it is absolutely true, this tree is 'arrested' not for one or two, but for 123 years.
Due to a law, a banyan tree has been chained in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. In the province's Landi Kotal, this tree is kept chained to the ground and a board hanging from the tree branches still reads: I am under arrest. There is a very interesting story behind the arrest of this tree, but now the question must be arising in your mind that why would anyone arrest a tree? Because if there was too much trouble, the tree could have been cut. But due to the stubbornness of a British army officer, this tree was 'arrested' and is still tied with big chains.
The story of this tree started in the year 1898, when a heavily drunken British officer, James Squid was walking in the Landi Kotal army cantonment. During this, while intoxicated, he realized that the banyan tree in front was moving towards him. James Squid was completely horrified to see such a huge tree coming towards him, so he immediately ordered the soldiers to arrest the tree. The soldiers, obeying their officer, tied the tree with chains and since then this tree is under arrest. And 123 years later, this tree is still standing tied with chains like this.
Time passed at its own pace but the people there did not remove these chains from the tree and along with that they also hung a board on the tree with some text written on that 'I am under arrest'. It is believed that the chains have not been removed so that the cruelty of the British rule can be shown. But now this place has turned into a tourist destination.
