In our previous article, we had discussed a mythical being of the Tatra Mountains, named Dzivozony. In today's article, we are going to talk about another mythical being of the Tatra Mountains, known as "The Ghost Monk".
As discussed earlier, the Tatra Mountains are known for the stories of the existence of many mythical beings, among which the stories of a ghost monk are also very prominent. It is an evil spirit that looks like a monk from afar wearing white robes and a hood. This spirit sometimes appears smaller than the size of a mushroom and sometimes equal to the size of a giant human. People visiting this mountain area have often seen the same monk-like figure roaming in the forest. It is said that this spirit calls lonely stray women to himself and takes them to these forests, after which they never return. Some people consider this event to be a natural phenomenon, where before the rains an illusion is created in the forests of the mountains, as from afar this shape looks like a human. Some people believe that following this figure, some might have gone into the dense forest and they would have died due to deviating from there.
But there is also a legend of such a woman in this area who came back alive after escaping from the captivity of this spirit. Around the 1800s a woman came close to the Tatra Mountains when she saw a monk. She felt as if he was some divine person, she went after the monk and was caught by him. As night fell, the condition became even more dreadful, the monk performed some strange rituals with the woman and also sexually abused her. The woman told that during all this happening, she was still conscious and ran away from there as soon as she got a chance. Initially, she felt that someone was following her for some distance, but soon she came out of the forest and her life was saved.
